At the SciMix evening of ACS National meetings, the ACS Division of Chemistry and the Law (CHAL) used to display on posters legal decisions about how the law affects the chemical enterprise. Very few attendees stopped by.
Then CHAL switched their display to posters about chocolate years ago, handing out chocolate pieces chopped off a 10-pound chocolate bar. If you stayed to the” bitter’ end, there was a free raffle for even more chocolate, including another 10-pound bar.
Chocolate sells! And the bait-and-switch works, too. The accompanying photos were taken at the ACS Fall 2026 meeting in Chicago of Mr. & Mrs Chocolate – AKA Howard and Sally Peters – and the enthused raffle winners.
