Chair

  • Acts as main contact for the local section
  • Runs the monthly meetings of the Executive Committee
  • Guides the section’s monthly events for the general membership and the public
  • Writes a column in the monthly newsletter
  • Provides opportunities for leadership within the ACS on both a local and National level
  • Coordinates local and National programs, members and committees
  • Provides an advantaged perspective to create new directions, to establish new associations, and to draw in new participants

Chair-Elect

  • Attends monthly Executive Committee meetings as a voting member
  • Attends the National ACS Leadership Conference, funded by the ACS. Great networking opportunity as officers of all aspects of the ACS are there
  • Coordinates the 50+ year member certificates for the 2017 Summer Picnic
  • Plans dinner-seminar meetings for latter half of year. SVACS already has favorite venues, plus a Program Committee to help with logistics, so the Chair-elect primarily finds speakers/topics and chairs the Program Committee. Other Executive Committee members are good sources of suggestions and connections
  • Serves as Chair in the event of their absence at official events
  • Serves as Chair the following year. The Chair’s duties include running the monthly Executive Committee meetings, planning events for first half of year, and writing monthly Chair messages in the newsletter.
  • Serves as the Past-chair, helping to mentor the Chair-elect and Chair if they need guidance

Immediate Past-Chair

  • Advises and assists the Chair to ensure the continuity and completion of programs and activities started during their tenure
  • Ensures completion and submission of the Local Section Annual Report on time
  • Updates and maintains operations manual in collaboration with the Bylaws Committee
  • Attends and participates in Executive Committee and other meetings of the section
  • Remains involved in Section operations

Secretary

  • Serves a 2-year term
  • Attends monthly local Executive Committee meetings as a voting member
  • Records Executive Committee meeting minutes (made easier by annotating the written meeting agenda into written meeting minutes)
  • Submits an annual report for the section to ACS National – primarily a collation of individual Executive Committee and committee member reports
  • Oversees yearly elections (electronic voting provided by an external service)

Treasurer

  • Serves a 2-year term
  • Attends monthly local Executive Committee meetings as a voting member
  • Oversees management and reporting of the organization’s finances
  • Maintains the bank account including selecting a bank, signing checks, and investing excess funds wisely
  • Oversees financial transactions including payment of outstanding bills as well as developing systems for keeping cash flow manageable
  • Develops and reports the annual budget and monitors actual revenues and expenses incurred against the budget
  • Oversees the development and observation of the organization’s financial policies
  • Completes and mails Forms 1099-Misc and 1096
  • Files annual federal and state tax forms
  • Files ACS annual report

Councilor

  • Serves a 3-year term
  • Attends monthly local Executive Committee meetings as a voting member
  • Attends monthly dinner meetings or planned activities when possible
  • Attends ACS National Meetings and represents there the local section at the ACS Council meeting, funded by the ACS
  • Contributes to or authors the Councilors’ recap of the National Council meeting article for the SVACS newsletter for the local membership
  • Voluntarily serves on National Committees and in local section activity, including the possibility of chairing a local sub-committee

Alternate Councilor

  • Serves a 3-year term
  • Attends monthly local Executive Committee meetings as a voting member
  • Attends monthly dinner meetings or planned activities when possible
  • Substitutes for unavailable local section Councilors at ACS National Meetings, representing the local section there at the ACS Council meeting, funded by the ACS
  • Voluntarily serves on National Committees and in local section activity, including the possibility of chairing a local sub-committee
