Renowned for his pioneering contributions to statistical mechanics and molecular simulation techniques\, Hans profoundly transformed the field of chemistry. \nDuring his distinguished 40-year career\, he developed foundational computer simulation methods and sophisticated analytical theories that greatly advanced our understanding of complex chemical systems. His ingenuity and dedication earned him numerous accolades in theoretical chemistry and education\, as well as significant administrative roles at Stanford University. In recognition of his exceptional contributions\, he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1992 and appointed the David Mulvane Ehrsam and Edward Curtis Franklin Professor in Chemistry in 1994. \nBeyond his remarkable scientific achievements\, Hans will be fondly remembered by his colleagues\, students\, and postdoctoral researchers for his intellectual brilliance\, inspiring mentorship\, and unwavering kindness. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to influence future generations of scientists. \nA memorial service for Hans Andersen is being planned in Redmond\, WA\, at 3 PM PT on Saturday\, August 29th.
